RETREAT, REFORM
How It started:
2014
It started as a creative retreat.
A way to find inspiration around the world and reinterpret it through a Scandinavian lens.
Early on, it took shape as an online magazine. We documented subcultures, highlighted emerging voices, and questioned the role of culture in society.
We believed culture wasn’t just something to consume – it was something to build, protect, and evolve.
By November 2014, the idea had grown beyond a platform.
This is Scandinavia became an agency, founded in Sweden.
2015
We decided to become an agency with a clear point of view.
At the time, we saw culture being used carelessly in branding – borrowed without understanding, extracted without giving back.
We wanted to challenge that.
So we built our own model.
An agency working at the intersection of culture and brand, but with responsibility at its core.
We also started our management.
Not just to represent talent, but to set a standard.
If you take from a culture, you give something back. Otherwise, the system breaks.
2016
A year defined by production.
Festivals, music videos, tours, installations.
We were doing everything – and learning by doing.
Out of that came TiS Production.
A production company with a DIY mindset and no real limitations.
From building physical spaces to producing full-scale cultural experiences.
2017
We hit a point where we had to question everything.
More agencies were appearing. Many looked and sounded the same.
We didn’t see our role clearly anymore.
So we stepped back and redefined our purpose.
This is Scandinavia Management was born out of that process.
A more focused direction, built around people and long-term development rather than short-term output.
2018
We started building something more permanent.
Something that could last and grow with others.
Our management evolved into a label.
We partnered with Sony Music Sweden, opening up new possibilities for distribution, scale, and collaboration.
2019
This became a year of reflection.
We didn’t want to be boxed into a category.
Agency, label, production company – none of it fully defined us.
We saw ourselves as something fluid. Changeable.
By staying open, we could move between contexts.
React to what felt important.
Act on what felt necessary.
We weren’t driven by structure.
We were driven by values, knowledge, and curiosity.
2020 – 2021
We refined how we worked.
Everything we did was rooted in ideas, strategy, and community-driven initiatives.
Always connected to a broader perspective on culture and society.
We continued to reject fixed definitions.
Still changeable. Still evolving.
At this point, we were running a communication agency, a music label, and a creative studio.
But we never saw that as the final form.
RETHINK
2021 – →
We stopped thinking in formats.
And started thinking in systems.
Today, This is Scandinavia is a platform for building ideas, testing them in the real world, and turning them into something that can live on its own.
Some become companies.
Some become cultural projects.
Some become research, collaborations, or movements.
We don’t define what we are in advance.
We define it by what we choose to build.
